To create the kitchen of our old Breton house, we started from scratch: an empty room. The atmosphere chic country kitchen I liked it a lot! White, wood, a touch of brass… It was the starting point of my research.
The goal was a kitchen that had some charm : it is the largest room in the house, also the one where we receive food (we do not have a proper dining room). We also wanted her to be functional : we like to cook, we also like to have space when we cook and lots of storage.
We love wood, in all its forms. The vintage pieces in flea market we also like a lot. It is in this spirit that we therefore thought about cooking.
Which model to choose for a chic country kitchen that is not overpriced?
The kitchen / dining room is 45m2. It was therefore necessary to succeed in furnishing it without exploding the budget. After weeks of researching through Pinterest, I found the perfect model at IKEA: Axstad. I liked the decor of the doors, and especially the side very bright matt white.
We have opted for low furniture and three mid-high columns. Our entire kitchen is made up of sliding drawers. It's so much easier on a daily basis, both for food and utensils. I can only recommend you!
For the work plan, the wood look is essential to create the chic country kitchen atmosphere. However, no solid wood for us: far too complicated to maintain on a daily basis (and we already have enough wood to oil and varnish in the rest of the house :). So I went in search of a work plan oak look, which is qualitative. I found it at Leroy Merlin, the matte boreal model.
With this work plan, we created two spaces: the first with the cooking sink part and the second island style (3m) all in length, filled with drawers, against which we placed our dining table perpendicularly. After several months of use, we are still happy with it. The wood look is rather realistic and does not require no maintenance.
To reinforce the rustic side, we opted for brass shell handles. Again, difficult to find the ideal finish (slightly brushed effect). I found the brass-plated steel model (Ref 81967318) at Leroy Merlin, they are perfect.
Give a country style to your kitchen
The retro ceramic sink, it was perfect to match the style of our chic country kitchen. We had long noticed this Havsen model at Ikea. If I had been able to find a brass shower faucet, I would certainly have fallen for it but I fell back on a brushed nickel color which also fits very well (Vimmern model at Ikea).
For the credenza, zelliges had caught my eye for a very long time (Instagram's fault!). Zelliges are perfect for giving a rustic chic style to any room. Those are Moroccan artisan tiles, with an imperfect finish, but that's what makes them so charming. The colors and shapes are not strictly identical, but the harmony is there. I found my happiness at Mosaic Factory (they sell on the internet), we opted for the square model in color 1018 to keep the light in the kitchen.
Personalized solid oak shelves complete the decoration. I found a real gem at Garden Trading (an English site that delivers to France): an oak shelf placed on two wrought iron supports. Too bad the prices stop me otherwise I would buy everything they sell on their site!
The other solid oak shelves were made to measure, and placed one above the other to create easily accessible storage : coffee makers, kettle, wine glasses, jars etc ... Under the bottom shelf we store our sorting bins, our composter is outside, behind the window.
La large dining table in solid wood (early twentieth) was found on Selency. A real stroke of luck (you know, the kind of things you find when you aren't looking for them). The chairs are intentionally mismatched : the bistro model comes from Maison du Monde, the black chairs from Kave Home. The suspensions above the dining table are made of natural fibers from the Corep brand.
Our choices of kitchen appliances
I have always had a huge crush on Smeg fridges and I know I'm not the only one! I didn't want a built-in fridge in the kitchen cabinet, but rather a nice fridge that contributes to the decor of the room. With its beautiful cream color, how not to crack? This is the Smeg FAB28RCR3. Capacity level, it is very good for a small family.
Le pastry robot in the colors of the kitchen is the KitchenAid cream artisan food processor 4,8L. It's convenient to be able to leave it on the counter, and use it whenever you need it. For this, we had provided an electrical outlet directly in the worktop.
Other elements in the colors of the kitchen complete the decor: the KitchenAid adjustable kettle cream 1,5L, KitchenAid Cream Automatic Toaster. The oven and microwave are built-in, we had them for a long time.
For cooking part, we opted for a Bosch 5-burner gas hob. My dream, to be honest with you, was to have a cooking piano… But budget requires, we fell back on this plate which does its job well. In the center you can simmer a cast iron casserole for Sunday meals, it's perfect! For the hood, I wanted a sleek style without being too modern: this is a Samsung 90cm cooker hood.
So much for the full tour of the kitchen, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave me a comment at the bottom of the page!
And if this article made you want to prepare a little recipe, then head over to blog homepage or recipe index to find your happiness :)
Melizz
Superb cuisine! I also love the wood / white combination and this one is very successful. I keep in mind if I ever redo my kitchen (I dream of an American style kitchen in my living room).
Lilie bakery
Thank you Melizz for your message, happy to have been able to give you ideas for a future project! :)
Pepi
She is hot ! I who do not have a functional kitchen, I dream of all this storage that looks so practical !! I keep the idea of drawers!
Lilie bakery
Thanks to you ! I'm really glad you like it :) drawers are life (and I had a tiny kitchen before so I know what it is;))
L&T
I really like these clear and natural colors!
Lilie bakery
Thank you for your message ! White and wood are very soothing ... and it makes you want to spend time in the kitchen :)
Morgane
Your cooking is superb. I am rethinking mine. Is it possible to know the budget (approximately)? Thanks a lot.
Lilie bakery
Hello Morgane, thank you for your message! For the kitchen (without appliances), the total amount was around € 4000. I hope I could help you, see you soon :)
Thea
Hello
for my walls is it white or slightly off white?
I hesitate because my living room next door will be in broken white and we will see the two rooms from the landing (no doors)
please
It looks nice.
Lilie bakery
Thanks Thea! It is a white paint (rather warm white than cold white for that matter) from the Zolpan brand. I don't know if you know this brand but it is used by professional painters and their shops are also open to individuals. I only use this brand now, very easy to apply and the rendering is great. The exact reference is Ondi Pur Velours (it is also depolluting). Goodbye :)
Thea
Thank you !!!! yes Zoltan looks very good in depolluting for me and oh happiness a real store is 600 me from my home, to go see the colors in real life! it is inescapable!
Thank you very much
2) are these Ikea furniture (very beautiful) VOC free or at what dose of VOC? and especially without ODOR and odorous chemical fumes because I had to leave an apartment where the kitchen smelled of chemicals or solvents? I am very allergic to solvents.
Lilie bakery
I do not know the dose of VOCs in IKEA furniture, but I would be surprised if they were VOC free… Do not hesitate to ask your nearest IKEA. Goodbye :)
Mylène
I stumbled upon your blog completely by chance .. and I am completely won over by your cuisine.
I allow myself to ask you a few questions if the opportunity allows you to answer me:
Is white messy?
You set up your kitchen on your own if I understood correctly, does it take a long time?
Thank you
Lilie bakery
Hello Mylène, the kitchen was set up by my companion who is a handyman. Otherwise Ikea offers an assembly service I believe. White is not more messy than other colors: if you only touch the handles to open and close the elements, no traces on the facades :) The important thing is that your worktop is not too messy . I hope I have answered your questions
Marie
Hello, Happy New Year from the North,
Magnificent your kitchen. We plan to redo our although it is very functional, it looks its age (year 70). I succumb to the simple, bright, practical charm of yours, after having explored multiple sites, no presentation has as many positive points in my eyes as your work. Wow! Thank you. Married
Lilie bakery
Thank you Marie for your message! I am delighted that this can inspire you for your renovation :) See you soon
Virginia
Hello,
I also fell in love with your kitchen. I have a home project and a certainty for the kitchen, it will be a chic country style, an alliance of white and wood. So I was looking for ideas and came across your blog, thanks for sharing.
I did not know the zelliges, the rendering is really pretty.
On the other hand, a question, on the sink, I like this style, but without a drainer, isn't it a bit restrictive to dry/drain the dishes?
thanks again
Lilie bakery
Thank you Virginia! For the sink I love it, it is very large and very practical. For the drainer I added a water collector under the wooden drainer, it's practical, no water on the worktop. Goodbye :)
Navy
Hello, very nice job! Could you tell me where the suspensions come from?
cordially
Lilie bakery
Hello, the suspensions come from Atmosphera, see you soon :)
Marion
Bonsoir
Superb kitchen.
We have a 25m2 room to furnish and I love this style.
May I ask you what furniture did you use for the island? And the facades are very pretty, what did you put?
Thanks in advance
Lilie bakery
Hello Marion, all references are written in my article :)
Sandrine
Hello, congratulations on your kitchen it is beautiful!
I have a question, I wonder how you could have outside the island part (dining table side) axtad facades because I imagine that the furniture opens on the inside side of the kitchen? is it the same facades as the opening side of the cabinet but in this case how are they fixed? I don't know if my question is clear :-) we are thinking about our kitchen and we will have an island but with furniture that will only open on one side and in this case the back of the boxes is just hidden by a simple white decor yet I have the impression on your photos that you were able to bring on the other side the charm of the axstad doors hence my question! have a nice day
Lilie bakery
Hello Sandrine, these are simply "facings" (I don't know the exact name) which can be ordered at the same time as the island, it's very practical. You have to ask in store because I couldn't find it online. Goodbye :)
Magali
Hello,
Very nice kitchen! Can you please tell me the brand of your oven and microwave pack please?
Lilie bakery
Hello Magali, to answer you, it's not a pack, we bought them separately on the internet, they are Bosch. Goodbye :)
Emmanuelle
Hello
Bravo for your cooking and all these details. Could you please let me know your kitchen plan? I can't quite figure out how to install it. Thank you in advance.
Lilie bakery
Hello Emmanuelle, everything will be explained to you at IKEA by an advisor, each house has its plan, and I don't work for them :)
Sarah
Magnificent kitchen. I like. You have done an excellent job.
My companion and I will refer to your ideas so that we can develop a kitchen to our liking without blowing our budget.
I might have some questions from time to time if you don't mind… firstly, could you give me the thickness chosen for the worktop? Leroy Merlin offers 16, 38 or 58 mm boreal oak laminate tops. Also, how many meters (a unit is 3m15 apparently) did you need for your entire kitchen worktop (including the island)? I thank you in advance for your answers and I hope not to have bothered you too much. Have a nice day, Sarah
Lilie bakery
Hello Sarah, I advise you to go to Leroy Merlin to find out about the different worktop thicknesses and which one you like the most (impossible to do online). We took a custom work plan, the cutting length is also asked on site, not on the internet :)
Cynthia
Hello,
Do you have the reference for your floor tiles handy?
Thank you very much.
Lilie bakery
Hello Cynthia, this is a tile bought from our craftsman, I don't have the reference. You have similar ones at Leroy Merlin I think. Goodbye :)
Vanessa
Hello,
I find your kitchen superb! I'm also going for the Axstad kitchen from Ikea. My question is about the sink (which I love). There is no version with drainer. Do you regret over time? Water does not damage your work plan by force? Thank you for your reply!! Have a good day!!
Lilie bakery
Hello Vanessa, no problem since I added a tray that collects the water under the wooden drainer. Goodbye :)
nathalie
Hello Aurélie,
I was charmed by your kitchen, I had a small question about the zelliges. When you ordered them from Mosaic Factory; did you choose the separate 10×10 tiles (to be laid 1 by 1) or with the factory pre-positioning option (rigid/flexible panels)?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Lilie bakery
Hello, thank you, we have chosen the separate 10×10 tiles. A tiler laid them for us afterwards. Goodbye :)
Manon
Hello,
I love your kitchen! I'm doing mine and I have an island as long as you. I find yours very soft and not very imposing visually. Is it possible to know its width?
Thank you in advance for your answer,
Lilie bakery
Hello Manon, it is 66cm wide, see you soon :)
Sarah
Hello Aurelie,
I love your kitchen
I also chose this model at Ikea and I wanted to know if you are happy with your sink in use.
There are several criticisms about the fact that it deteriorates quickly (marks, scratches) and the water which stagnates at the level of the tap on the worktop.
Another question: are the zelliges easy to maintain?
Thank you, Sarah
Lilie bakery
Hello Sarah, mine is still in good condition, I clean it regularly with the magic sponge, great for restoring its whiteness. Anyway, regardless of the brand, all white ceramic sinks are messy, that's normal. The zelliges are perfect! A classic sponge stroke and it's clean.
Julie
Hello,
I am about to take the brass-plated steel handles from Leroy Merlin but first I would like to know "in use" how they have evolved since the installation of your kitchen (which I also find superb and inspires me a lot to my current reflection). Screws? Color? Everything is fine? :)
Thank you for your return and have a nice evening!!
Julie
Lilie bakery
Hello Julie, they are perfect, have not moved at all! Goodbye :)
Pat
Hello
I love your kitchen!!!
I have just returned from Leroy Merlin and I have only seen the boreal oak worktop at 139 euros.
On the website there is matt boreal oak at 99 euros….is it yours? Do you know the difference?
Thank you in advance
Lilie bakery
Hello, I don't know the difference because I don't work at Leroy Merlin :) You better ask them
Louise
Hello
I love your kitchen. Following the photos we are thinking of taking the akstad facades like you. Only downside, some reviews on the internet (but rather around 2017/2018) complain about the difficulty of maintaining the facades which would mark a lot with difficulties in cleaning?
Are you still happy 3 years after facades?
Thank you very much
Lilie bakery
Hello Louise, choosing matte white means having fingerprints all the time (grease, normal in a kitchen). I remove from time to time with a slightly damp cloth. I don't have a problem with that. Other people definitely do!
NINA
Hello,
I love your kitchen, I also want to do a chic country style. Can you tell me where you purchased your lights. THANKS.
Kind regards.
Lilie bakery
Hello Nina, thank you for your comment, my lights come from Atmosphera. See you soon :)
Sabrina
Hello, I love your kitchen. Very pretty the marriage of white and wood. May I know where the table and chairs are from?
Thanks see you soon !
Lilie bakery
Hello Sabrina, my table comes from a flea market, which I found on the Selency site (lots of beautiful tables). The chairs are a mix of Maisons du Monde and KaveHome, on the internet. See you soon :)
Karine
Hello,
I really like your kitchen and am currently working on a very similar project!
Could you tell me how many m2 your kitchen is please?
Thank you!
Lilie bakery
Hello Karine, thank you! The room is 42m2 and extends outside the photos in the article. See you soon :)
Lea
Hello,
I also fell in love with the boreal worktop from Leroy Merlin! I wanted to know if the depth of 65cm is not disturbing with the 60cm furniture from Ikea??? I'm afraid that the work surface will extend "too much".
Thank you for your opinion !!!
Lilie bakery
Hello Léa, no problem with the protruding cm, it doesn't change anything on a daily basis I assure you, it even protects the furniture underneath from possible leaks I would say. See you soon :)
