Ingredient details

  • milk : I use whole milk because it is smoother for this chai latte. If you want, you can choose vegetable milk. Oat milk is very good for this recipe because it is creamy, otherwise cashew milk may be suitable.
  • tea : I use black tea in a bag (from Darjeeling). If you're using loose tea, you'll want small, well-crumbled leaves instead.
  • spices : inside this chai latte, we find cinnamon, ginger, cardamom.
  • Maple syrup : it is the natural sweetener of this recipe. The quantity is to be adapted to your taste.
  • vanilla : I add a little for the greedy side.

How to make a homemade chai latte?

  1. We do heat the milk in a saucepan, until simmering
  2. We infuse the tea bags then we remove them
  3. We add spices and maple syrup (as you like)
  4. Remove from the heat, add vanilla then we pour the chai latte into 2 mugs
  5. As an option, we prepare a milk froth spooned over the mugs

NB: I give you the detailed recipe for this express chai latte at the bottom of the page

My tips for a successful chai latte

  • let the black tea steep for at least 5 minutes so that it can develop its aromas in the hot milk.
  • once the spices have been added, heat until boiling to properly diffuse their flavor.
  • to froth milk easily for decoration, warm it up slightly before using a small milk frother.

Possible variations for this recipe

When adding the spices to the milk, if you don't have cardamom, you can use it instead of 4 spice mix.

If you want reduce oiliness of the drink, you can choose semi-skimmed milk (instead of whole milk) or replace half of the milk in the drink with water.

Recipe tested and approved (even with semi-skimmed milk)!

Really too good and perfect in this early winter period. I'm so happy to have an alternative to overpriced coffee shop chai lattes!
